Fortress of Elossia

I'm glad to announce that Elossia is branching out. In recent weeks, key members of Elossia have grown tired of Minecraft, so we've decided to start an Elossia Team Fortress 2 server. You can grab the IP from the gametracker link on the right side of the screen.
Right now it's a basic rotation of maps. I'll be working on tweaking the rotations and settings in the following weeks.

This will add another $12 to the required donations each month, but if we don't meet that mark, the Minecraft server holds priority.

Regeneration List

Later today, I will run a script that partially regenerated the world. It will check if a chunk contains man-made blocks, and if the chunk is absent of any unnatural materials, will regenerate the chunk.

If you do not want a chunk to be regenerated, it must contain one of the following blocks. These are the only blocks that cannot appear naturally under any circumstances and are available in 1.2.

Block of Diamond
Block of Gold
Block of Iron
Brick
Brick Stairs
Cake
Detector Rail
Dragon Egg
Enchantment Table
Fance Gate
Glass
Jack 'o' Lantern
Jukebox
Lapis Lazuli Block
Melon
Note Block
Piston
Powered Rail
Redstone Lamp (Off)
Redstone Lamp (On)
Redstone Torch (Off)
Redstone Torch (On)
Sapling
Snow (Block)
Sponge
Stone Brick Stairs
Trapdoor

Changelog: Tuesday, July 10, 2012

The bulk of this update is how spawners act.

Monsterbox:
- Added a "normalizing" effect to monster deaths (explained below)
- Removed Wolves (due to players literally spawning an army)
- Added Cave Spiders
- Added Magma Cubes Not working.
- Re-Added Pigzombies (explained below)
- Added Snowmen
- Added Squid

- Removed Herobrine

Recently, players discovered methods by which they could effectively grind a full stack of 64 diamond blocks in around 4 hours. This is seriously overpowered, and spawners clearly needed a nerf.
The immediate solution was to remove the permissions allowing players to set "profitable" mobs, but I felt this was a bit heavy-handed, and removed a small amount of fun the spawners allowed.
The new solution, is a "normalizing" effect from mob deaths. The server will now track where mobs die, and if too many mobs have died in an area recently, will reduce the amout of loot and xp the mob drops.
For the average player jumping around, killing things as they naturally appear, you will see no change, since kills are spread out in both distance and time.
For the player who has set up mob traps fed by spawners, you will see a much smaller return. The most efficient spawners will appear to drop nothing after the first 20 kills or so.

The normalizing effects will be fine-tuned in the coming weeks to ensure spawners are still useful, without being overpowered.

Changelog: Monday, June 18, 2012

Factions:
- Configuration 'allowNoSlashCommand' set to false. Players must use '/' before any faction commands. This is to prevent players from bypassing warmups/cooldowns for specific commands.
- Configureation 'homesTeleportIgnoreEnemiesIfInOwnTerritory' set to false. Players cannot use '/f home' to run away if enemies are nearby.
- Configuration 'removePlayerDataWhenBanned' set to true. When a player is banned, they are automatically removed from their faction.
- The Moderator '/tp' command is now properly blocked in enemy land.

Cooldowns/Warmups:
- Added a cooldowns/warmups plugin. This was mostly done to prevent an exploit wherein a player trapped in enemy land can leave their faction, use '/spawn', and rejoin their faction. This addition also returns the Moderator '/tp' command to it's original purpose, to help stuck players and for official assistance.
- '/f admin' now has a warmup of 10 minutes.
- '/f leave' and '/f kick' each have a warmup of 5 minutes.
- '/spawn' and '/f home' each have a warmup of 5 seconds.
- The Moderator '/tp' command now has a cooldown of 15 minutes.

Blog:
- Slightly edited the 'Factions and You' page to remove references to Multiverse.

Buycraft:
- Buycraft premium store added. We can offer many more packages this way.

Recipe Manager:
- Added doubleslab recipes. Sorry, It's not working yet.

AutoAnnouncer:
- Corrected/edited various lines James says.
- Added a line stating death from player afk-ness is not our fault.

News of the Nations #002: Diamond's Bane

Minecraft Event: Diamond's Bane

Elossian administrators have recently announced the first event taking place in the recently-moved Minecraft server. A recently discovered relic nicknamed "Diamond's Bane" is being put up for grabs in a server population event.
Posted ImageOn Friday, May 18, 2012, anyone logging in to Elossia will be part of the event. The goal of the event is to maintain at least 25 people online at the same time for a minimum of one hour. What you do during this time is up to you.
Upon completion of the full hour, each person online will receive one half stack (32) of Glowstone Blocks. Additionally, one person, chosen at random by dice roll, will receive the ancient sword "Diamond's Bane". Administrators are excluded from the dice roll.

Diamond's Bane is said to be an iron sword with near-diamond strength, enchanted beyond what was previously thought possible. The exact enchantments are unknown, but DarthRiko has said the sword is far more powerful than any known diamond weapon.

News of the Nations #001: Pandera

Panderan Capital Attacked
Today, the Panderan capital was blown up in the continuing war with the Farlanders. The attack was made possible because Panderan membership dropped, causing a drop in power of up to 50 points*. Noticing the power deficit, Farlanders moved in and took much of Pandera's central territories.
*Exact power loss unknown.

The Farlanders have stated that they left the diamond block as a sign of good will, and to help Pandera recover quickly. They also stated they have no intention of continuing hostilities towards Pandera. It will be up to Panderan leaders to decide if retaliation against the Farlanders is worth the resources it would require.
During the photo, the leader ChaosSR said, "Welcome to Farlanders, home of the Warburger. Can I loot your stuff?"

Alright guys, this was the first News of the Nations. Let me know if you liked it and what to change or add. I would like this to become a continuing thing, but that requires that players do things worth talking about.
And if you have ideas for future News of the Nations, let me know.
